History of Foster Road Baptist Church

Foster Road Baptist Church began in June of 1964 by a group of Christians who prayerfully decided to build a new church in the Brownsfield-Kleinpeter area. Our first services were at Brownsfield Elementary School where Rev. Zeltner preached our first sermon on July 5, 1964.  On August 30, 1964 Rev. Gene Griessman became our first pastor. After several months in the school we were able to buy thirteen and a half acres on Foster Road. Work was started on the church building on March 15, 1965 and we officially moved into the new building on Sunday, October 24, 1965.

On December 21, 1965 our church was completely destroyed by fire. The church building was rebuilt and another section was added for three primary departments and a library. Our church burned again in May 1967, and we pitched a tent and used a tin building to have services. We rebuilt and added a Junior and Intermediate building. In 1976 we added a recreation and activity building.

We have been pastored through these years by Rev. Gene Griessman, Rev. James Clark, Rev. Joe Ratcliff, Rev. A.E. Pardue, Rev. Leland Langridge, Rev. Huey Moak and Rev. Michael Morris our present pastor.

The history of Foster Road Baptist church is a tribute to the people who have belonged, served and willingly shared the truth of the Gospel in our community.

Verse of the Day

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,”
